“Every great city of the world must have a Marathon. Nothing binds a city as a marathon does!”

When Procam International was founded in 1988, brothers Anil and Vivek Singh set out with a singular vision—to transform the sporting landscape of India through world-class experiences that could inspire a nation. As that vision evolved, one dream remained constant: to conduct a world-class marathon in India.

They believed running was a panacea for modern society - bringing together people of every age, gender, ability and background on the same road, with the same purpose.

“The road is the greatest leveller.”

More than two decades ago, India was largely a nation of spectators. Distance running as a mass participative sport was unheard of.

“Everything changed in 2003.”

While attending the London Marathon, Anil and Vivek witnessed something extraordinary. Thousands of people running together—not only for medals, but for personal milestones, loved ones, causes they believed in and the joy of pushing their own limits. They saw how a marathon could become the heartbeat of a city and a force capable of inspiring an entire nation.

That experience transformed conviction into action.

Bringing a marathon of that scale to India demanded vision, perseverance and the collective belief of many. With the support of the State and Civic Authorities, sponsors, partners and, above all, the running community, the Mumbai Marathon became a reality.

What began as a bold ambition has since grown into one of India’s most enduring sporting movements.

For over two decades, the Tata Mumbai Marathon has reshaped the country’s relationship with health, fitness and endurance. It has inspired millions to embrace running, created a pathway for Indian long- and middle-distance athletes to compete on the global stage, and built an inclusive sporting community—bringing together people across ages, abilities and backgrounds.

Over ₹500 crore has been raised through the collective efforts of NPOs, corporates and individual fundraisers, benefiting more than 1,000 Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) across a wide range of causes. Today, the Tata Mumbai Marathon stands as India's largest sporting platform for philanthropy. More than raising funds, it has nurtured a culture of giving alongside a culture of running—where every kilometre becomes an opportunity to change lives. 

The event has also helped redefine the business of sport in India by creating a thriving distance-running ecosystem while generating lasting social, economic, health and environmental impact. Across the last four editions alone, it has delivered a cumulative socio-economic and health impact of ₹1,182.67 crore.

Today, the Tata Mumbai Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label Race, stands among the world’s leading marathons.

Every third Sunday of January, thousands of runners from India and across the globe gather on the streets of Mumbai—not merely to complete a race, but to celebrate resilience, generosity, community and the limitless potential of the human spirit.

Because the Tata Mumbai Marathon has never been just about running.
